Festivals - Day of the Dead

The annual traditional Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) celebrations are family-focused events which originated in pre-Hispanic times in central Mexico. It is widely observed in Mexico, and is also observed in other places, especially by people of Mexican heritage.

It is celebrated to honor and remember deceased loved ones. It is believed that the souls of the dead return to visit the living families in homes, businesses and cemeteries.

The Photo Club announced the festival in Lincoln, California on November 2, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Jim Sakaguchi's announcement follows:

Experience the layers of color, culture, and community at our 6th annual Day of the Dead Festival at Beermann Plaza.  Immerse yourself in Aztec dancers, heart-and-soul altar exhibits by our community members, mouthwatering street eats, funky artisan local vendors, and live music that’ll have you dancing.  Bring your smartphones and cameras.

  • When: Nov 2, 2024, starting at 2 to 8pm.

  • Where: Lincoln CA, downtown Beermann Plaza.

  • Why: Great opportunity to photograph folks aligning with the up-coming Special Learning Session on “Street Photography” by Charlie Schuman.  As well as the past session on “Transforming ordinary candid images of people into the extraordinary” by Dennis Berry.

Don’t forget to wear your LHPC hat so we can spot each other.
