Año Nuevo State Park is twenty miles north of Santa Cruz on California State Route 1. Every year thousands of elephant seals return to breed, give birth and molt. Molting Season: April 1 to August 31.

In addition, it is a good birding location.

Hike distance 3 to 4 miles. Sometimes deep sand. Round trip is about 3 hours, not including photography.

Entrance fee is $10.00. Visitor permits from 8:30 to 3:30.
